Job Title: ICU Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Reports To: ICU Consultant / Senior Medical Staff
Job Purpose:
The ICU RMO provides critical care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit, supporting the medical team in the management and treatment of critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:
- Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients under supervision.
- Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans in coordination with the ICU team.
- Monitor vital signs and clinical condition of patients, implementing necessary interventions.

Clinical Responsibilities:
- Perform and assist with medical procedures, including intubation, central line placement, and arterial line insertion.
- Manage ventilator settings and adjustments based on patient needs.
- Administer medications and manage infusions, ensuring proper dosing and administration routes.

Collaboration:
- Work closely with intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to discuss patient care plans and progress.

Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records in accordance with institutional policies.
- Document patient assessments, progress notes, and care plans in a timely manner.

Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients’ families regarding care plans, progress, and educational needs.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed for comprehensive patient care.

Emergency Response:
- Respond to codes and emergencies within the hospital setting, providing immediate care as necessary.
- Assist in life-saving procedures and contribute to emergency management efforts.

Education and Training:
- Participate in educational sessions, case discussions, and departmental meetings.
- Engage in continuous professional development and stay updated with the latest in critical care practices.

Quality Improvement:
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives in the ICU.
- Participate in audits and feedback sessions to enhance patient care delivery.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Valid medical license to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience in a medical or surgical residency program (previous ICU experience preferred).
- Strong clinical skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions:
- Shift work required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High-stress environment with exposure to critically ill patients.
